The Essential Video Doorbell Wire-Free closely resembles the original Arlo Doorbell and is among the popular smart doorbells on the market. However, it comes in a slightly larger size, measuring 5.6 by 1.8 by 1.3 inches (HWD), as opposed to the original model's dimensions of 5.0 by 1.7 by 1.0 inches. It also stands taller than the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus, which measures 5.1 by 2.4 by 1.1 inches. This increase in size is due to its rechargeable battery pack, which powers the device and eliminates the need for any troublesome wires during installation.
The doorbell features a sleek glossy black front panel complemented by white side accents, and its mounting base features a matte black finish (an alternative version with black side accents is also available). The bottom half of the smart doorbell showcases a round doorbell button, encircled by an LED status ring, offering a distinct look. The camera, ambient light sensor, and microphone are located on the upper half of the device, while a small speaker can be found on the bottom edge.
Doorbell Camera Video Quality
The camera within the Arlo Essential Wireless Video Doorbell boasts excellent video quality, recording at a resolution of 1,536 x 1,536 pixels. This high resolution ensures that the captured footage is sharp and detailed. It also uses a 1:1 aspect ratio, allowing you to see people from head to toe at your door. This ensures you won't overlook any crucial visitor details.
The camera also has HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology. This helps make the footage better by showing brighter whites, darker blacks, and more vivid colors. With a 180-degree field of view, the camera covers a wide area in front of your door, making sure you see everything. You can also use the 12X digital zoom to take a closer look at specific parts of the video.
Additionally, its motion sensor has a 110-degree field of view, enabling it to detect movement and activity within a wide angle. This ensures that even if someone approaches from an angle, the motion sensor can trigger alerts effectively.
The Arlo Essential Wireless Video Doorbell features night vision capabilities that automatically kicks in when darkness falls. Its high-powered Infrared LEDs emit light at a wavelength of 850 nm and work alongside an IR cut filter to enhance the camera's performance in low-light or dark environments.
The inclusion of an IR cut filter is crucial for maintaining image quality. The IR cut filter ensures that during daylight hours when visible light is present, the camera captures images in full color. When transitioning to low-light or nighttime conditions, the filter is automatically removed, allowing the camera to capture infrared light for enhanced night vision.
The Package Detection function enables you to get notifications whenever your Arlo Camera or Video Doorbell detects a package being delivered or collected. These notifications appear as push alerts on your device's lock screen, showing images captured by your camera. In the push notification, the detected package is highlighted by a bounding box. This feature is capable of spotting packages as compact as a shoe box.
Package Detection can only be used with an Arlo Secure subscription.
Cloud Storage is accessible through an Arlo Secure Subscription. This subscription grants you the ability to utilize Cloud Storage for your recorded video clips. With the subscription, you gain access to the convenience of storing video history remotely in a secure cloud environment for up to 30 days.
Custom Motion Zones
An Activity Zone is a feature that directs the motion detection of your camera to a particular section within its field of view. When motion is detected by the camera, it determines whether the movement took place within the designated Activity Zone(s) that you've set up. Should motion be detected within one of these Activity Zones, the Arlo Secure App sends you a notification, and the captured recording is stored in your video Library. Do note that this feature can only be used with an Arlo Secure subscription.
