How to remove the Arlo Camera from a mount

Arlo cameras are a great addition to any home security setup.

With the Arlo system offering HD and 4k security cameras minus the hassle of wiring, they've become a favorite among new smart home owners who are looking for easy installation without sacrificing security features.

However, this same advantage could turn out to be an inconvenience to some.

As these cameras rely on batteries to operate, you'll have to remove the device from its mount every time it needs to recharge.

Why remove your Arlo Camera from the mount?

There are several reasons why you'd want to remove your Arlo camera from its mount.

Device cleaning & maintenance

It's recommended that you uninstall the Arlo Camera if you want to clean it. Regularly cleaning the device ensures there isn't any dust or debris that may affect its functions.

Battery change

If you're planning on changing the batteries of your Arlo Ultra, Arlo, or Arlo Pro camera, you'll have to remove it from its mount. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the thumbscrew at the back of the camera housing to release the device.

Adjusting the view angle

If you want to change the camera position for a better viewing angle, you may have to remove it from its mount.

Temporary camera removal

Arlo cameras are a favorite among renters because of how easy it is to install and uninstall. Take your Arlo with you if you're moving to a new home. Just gently squeeze and pull on the release tabs while pulling down on the camera.

When you're painting you'll need to remove the camera from the mount and temporarily place it somewhere else.

Changing the location

Sometimes, there are spots in the house that need better security than others. In case you want to transfer you Arlo camera from one location to another, you'll have to remove it from its mount.

How to remove Arlo Camera from its mount in 5 quick steps

  1. Remove your camera from the mount

Use a step stool or ladder to reach your camera. This will allow you to effortlessly detach the camera from its mount.

To the remove your Arlo camera from its mount, rotate it counterclockwise. At the back of the device is a small notch that lines up with a tab on the mount. Once they're aligned, push and twist the camera off the mount.

  1. Detach the battery compartment

Grab a Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew the battery compartment. There are two screws that secure the battery cover. Loosen each screw and gently lift the cover from being attached to the device.

  1. Separate the mount and the camera

To separate the mount from the camera, hold the camera with one hand and use your other hand to twist and pull the mount. Use gentle force as to not damage the camera and the mount in the process.

  1. Detach the mount from the wall

Once the screws are loose, lift the camera off the mount. Be careful in doing this step as dropping could damage both the camera and the mount. You can use a screwdriver to help pry it loose if you're having difficulty removing it. Set the mount aside.

  1. Clean the parts

Using a rag, wipe off any dirt or debris from the mount and the hole. This will prevent any slippage and ensure the camera is securely attached.

If you have the Arlo Total Security Mount

The Total Security Mount has a special mechanism to lock your camera in place and prevent it from being stolen or tampered with.

Because of this, mounting and dismounting your camera and mount will be slightly different and will need a special key.

Installing a Total Security Mount:

  1. Place the back plate against the wall, with the arrow pointing up, and secure it with screws.

  2. Insert your camera with its battery into the Total Security Mount housing.

  3. To attach the housing to the back plate:
    a. Align the small screw on the mount and the dot on the back plate.
    b. Turn the housing clockwise, until it clicks in place.
    c. Use the security key to tighten the small screw.

  4. Adjust your camera position, then tighten the mount lock (clockwise) using your finger to lock the camera in position.

Releasing your camera from the camera housing:

  1. Insert the security key into the release button.

  2. Turn the security key clockwise until the camera is released from the camera housing.

  3. Pull the camera from the camera housing carefully.

Uninstalling a Total Security Mount:

  1. Use the special key to loosen the screw at the bottom of the Total Security Mount.

  2. Turn the mount and camera housing counter clockwise, and pull it from the back plate.

  3. Unscrew the screws from the back plate, and remove the backplate from your wall.

There are two ways you can remove your Arlo camera from its base station. Your first option is to use the release button on the back of the camera. To do this, hold the button down and pull the camera off of the base station.
